Tony Wakeford (SOL INVICTUS) and Gernot Musch (ex-PILORI) spread their black wings for their project Twa Corbies to reveal their long awaited debut album »The Clamouring«. Warm, sensual acoustic guitar layers and two perfectly matching, haunting voices is all it takes to bring us back to the root qualities of European dark folk music. Melancholic, yet full of vigour. Nostalgic and brimming with a love of freedom. Dreamily, and still always political. Nihilistic, yet never lacking a conciliating glimpse of hope. With their first gigs the two ravens realized that their collaboration would not be exhausted in playing Sol Invictus tracks unplugged. So, here come eleven brilliantly produced new studio tracks, played with gusto, to document Wakeford and Musch as accomplished musicians and experienced songwriters, ranging from spacious and epic songs like »Is There A Heaven?« and »A Fool In April«, with more than a hint of Wakeford about, to the hypnotic pull of »The Hand Of God«, to pondering ballad »Dark And Drublie Days«, with its infectious chorus. With the track »No Bosses« there’s a real gem for all Wakeford-fans to discover: Tony’s legendary punk band Crisis’ first single with its original lyrics that weren’t used at the time, over thirty years ago. Both, »No Bosses« and also newly arranged »Laughing«, are an integral part of the project’s stage set-up, and just two of the many reasons to count the days till the next Twa Corbies live concerts. Warme Akustikgitarrenklänge und zwei eindringliche, sich perfekt ergänzende Stimmen führen in atmosphärisch dichten Songs zurück an die Wurzeln des dunklen Folk-Genres: melancholisch und doch kraftvoll. Nostalgisch und freiheitsliebend. Träumerisch, und doch immer auch politisch. Nihilistisch, aber nie ohne versöhnlichen Hoffnungsschimmer. Nach den ersten Auftritten (darunter WGT, 2013) wurde schnell klar, dass es für die beiden Raben nicht bei der Akustik-Darbietung von Sol Invictus-Stücken bleiben würde. In elf hervorragend produzierten Studio-Tracks zeigen sich Wakefords und Muschs Spielfreude, ihr musikalisches Gespür und ihre Erfahrung als Songwriter - von raumgreifenden Liedern Wakeford’scher Prägung, wie »Is There A Heaven?« und »A Fool In April«, über die hypnotische Kraft von »The Hand Of God«, bis hin zur nachdenklichen Ballade »Dark And Drublie Days« mit ihrem mitreißenden Refrain. Alle Wakeford-Fans können mit »No Bosses« einen echten Schatz neu entdecken: die erste Single von Tonys legendärer Punk-Band »Crisis«, hier zum ersten Mal nach dreißig Jahren mit ursprünglichem Text und zusammen mit »Laughing« in neuem musikalischen Gewand. Excellent medieval folk, IGR, & those with ears to hear. I love the sense of mysticism and deep, introspective ponder this album conveys, & the honest down-to-earth folky lyrics. Simply wonderful yet soulfully rich. Highlights for me are tracks 2, 5, 6, & 12. IGR truly capture what I feel is an authentic sense of a medieval bard at a woodland rill pondering the mysteries of life. Highly recommended. 8.5+/10. Alrihkh
