We are proud to present a vinyl diamond for the first time on CD, by the British power electronics industrial outfit Con-Dom, short for Control Domination! The Eight Pillar was the first full-length Con-Dom release dating back to the year 1991, and was the second vinyl release after the Tesco 7" "Oh ye of little faith." This release had an accompanying booklet ordered separately which is now included in the artwork of the CD release. The CD is inspired by the life, writings and example of British author and "man of action" T.E. Lawrence - an enigmatic outsider who lived a tortured odyssey of physical and spiritual extremes in search of his own personal faith. The name of the CD derives from his book called "The Seven Pillars of Wisdom." With these recordings, Mike Dando, the man behind Con-Dom, set high standards in a genre that was just starting to arise. The powerful sounds and his strong voice give a good impression on how torturing the life of Lawrence must have been. Con-Dom explores every kind of social tension and control: political, religious, racial...with an acidic, violent and uncompromising attitude. He is well-known in the industrial scene for his furious ravaging vocals and the devastating live performances, in which he turns into a real stage animal. This record is a perfect example on how good writings and experiences can flow into this sort of industrial/power electronics music. Those who missed the LP version limited to 300 copies back in 1991 must see this record as a milestone or just a simple must! REVIEW: IKONEN MAGAZIN Con-Dom ist ein britisches Ein-Mann-Power-Electronics-Projekt, gegründet von Mike Dando, der auch in dem vergleichbar radikalen Duo Thee Grey Wolves mitwirkt. Mit Con-Dom verkündet er zu pulsierenden und dröhnenden Noiseschleifen Eindrücke aus den Schattenzonen der Menschheitsgeschichte, und das schon seit 20 Jahren. Einer der von Fans bestens gehüteten Klassiker des Genres ist sein 1991 erstmals veröffentlichtes Album "The Eighth Pillar", das sich in fünf Stufen dem Leben und Werk des britischen Militaristen, Schriftstellers und Ärchäologen Thomas Edward Lawrence widmet. Dessen zentrales Werk "The Seven Pillarsof Wisdom", das seinen Weg zum "Lawrence of Arabia" dokumentiert, bezieht sich zugleich auf einen arabischen Gebirgszug wie auch auf einen Mythos der islamischen Welt. Dem Thema gemäß - das vor einiger Zeit auch dem :Golgatha:-Album "Seven Pillars" als Inspiration diente - geht es bei Con-Dom um zentrale Begriffe wie Freiheit, Glauben, aber auch Leid. Die Texte, die in aggressivem Rezitativ erklingen, assoziieren frei über Themen aus Lawrence' Leben, seine unstillbare Sehnsucht nach Einfachheit und Reinheit in der Wüste, seine Idee der Vereinigung der arabischen Stämme zu einer geballten Kraft, aber auch seine Qual unter der türkischen Folter (im Text: "Confessions of Faith II"). Das Stück "Confessions of Faith" zitiert zu diesem Zweck aus dem Vorwort des Buches, das zugleich eine Liebeserklärung an Arabien wie auch Lawrence' arabischen Geliebten ist. Die schrillen Klanglandschaften ergießen sich gnadenlos in die Gehörgänge, während Dandos Stimme gurgelt und skandiert - ein (anti)musikalischer Gewaltakt, der Nerven und Lautstärke erfordert. Nur selten hören wir atmosphärische Samples oder gar melodiöse Fragmente (Track 4). Die nun von Functional/Tesco vorliegende, liebevoll gestaltete CD bewahrt den Sound in seiner ursprünglichen rauhen Qualität, verzichtet auf eine digitale Hochrüstung. Dafür ist der weiße Digipak mittels surreal anmutender Zeichungen und Teillackierung stilvoll gestaltet und mit einem umfangreichen Booklet ausgestattet, das die Artworkelemente wieder aufgreift und durch essayistische Texte ergänzt. "The Eighth Pillar" ist ein Kleinod des radikalen musikalischen Underground, nicht perfekt, aber inspirierend und in dieser Edition aufwändig und ästhetisch präsentiert. Für Fans postindustrieller Musik ein sicherer Tip.

I cannot praise this album enough. This album is absolutely terrifying! The many starts and stops creates this very h settling tension. Each start expands on the stopper idea previously. It’s like the music equivalent of walking through thick fog while passing out multiple times throughout trying to find a place to orientate yourself. There may or may not be something sinister in that fog, but you don’t want to stick around to find out. Bought the vinyl so I summon the fog demons through spe showhornwithteeth
